The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of Fosu College of Education led by Mr. Romel Owusu Baffour has petitioned the Principal of the College not to allow for the College to be used as an isolation centre for persons with COVID – 19.
Key among issues stated in the six-point petition cited by News Desk of CoEWJ is the fact that most tutors and their families reside on the campus and hence would be compelled to move out of the campus for this short period. The petition also stated that the use of the College as an isolation centre will compel most student teachers to be reluctant in reporting to school when school resumes for the fear of being infected with the virus.
The SRC is, therefore, urging the Principal to resist any attempt by officials from the Central Regional Coordinating Council and the Assin Central Municipal Assembly for the campus to be used for such an exercise.
The decision for authorities in the Region to use the College as an isolation centre came up after the Central Region recorded its first case of the novel coronavirus. Other educational institutions such as Adisadel College have strongly opposed the idea of using their campus as isolation centres to cater for persons with the virus.
