‘OMA 96’ donates items to Jasikan College of Education

The 1996 batch of past students of Jasikan College of Education, ‘OMA 96′, has donated a list of items to the Jasikan College of Education – JASICO, their Alma Mater. (For the records, students of Jasikan College of Education are commonly called Maroonians. Past students of the College are called ‘Old Maroonians.’ Past Students’ Association of the College is called ‘Old Maroonians’ Association – OMA. OMA 96 therefore means those who completed the College in 1996).

A five-member representative of the 1996-year group ‘OMA 96,’ led by Mr. Eric Koda, the Dining Hall Prefect (D.O) in 1996 and now President of the group, made the presentation at the Dining Hall of the College on Friday, 9th October, 2020.

Presenting the items on behalf of the group, Mr. Eric Koda noted that the College had done a lot for them. Therefore, it was time they also contributed to the development of the College as a means of giving back to society what MOTHER JASICO had given them.

The items donated which were meant for the College Clinic included; one fridge, two ceiling fans, one television set, a set of wall bracket for hanging television set, one swivel chair, a writing desk, two plastic chairs, one weighing scale, one foldable examination bed and three lab coats.

Mr. Eric Koda said that the motivation behind the donation of these items was based on an interaction he had with the Principal of the College. According to him, the Principal mentioned that the College was building a Clinic and they would need equipment for the Clinic.  Being health personnel himself, he sold the idea of assisting the College with some items to be used in the College Clinic to his colleagues who readily bought into it. He said that the donation of the items was not going to be the end of the group’s contribution to the College but rather, that was just the beginning. Other things, he concluded, would follow.

Other members of OMA 96 present during the presentation included; Mr. Frank Boamah, Mr. Paul Amedzi, Miss Doris Abayavor, and Mr. Thaddeus Danquah Kokobina. The group members took the opportunity to interact and share their experiences with the Level 100 students of the College who were in the College for a two-week revision towards the End-of-Second Semester Examination for the 2019/2020 Academic Year.

They called on the students not to pass through the college but rather, to allow the College ‘to pass through them’ so they can become useful citizens in society. They called on the students to make use of the opportunity they had as students JASICO.  The group was taken around the College Clinic. Having seen the size of the facility, Members pledged their commitment to assist the college with additional equipment in the near future.

Receiving the items on behalf of the College, the Vice Principal of the College, Mr. Emmanuel Banuyena expressed his appreciation and that of the entire JASICO Community to the group for the donations. He noted that no institution could exist without the contribution of old students. He therefore called on other year groups to come on board and assist in the development of the College.

Mr. Dogbey Wisdom, the Acting College Secretary mentioned the inability to complete the Fence Wall as one of the biggest challenges of the College. He noted that the situation has resulted in a lot of theft cases on campus because people use the numerous unapproved routes to the College to carry out their nefarious activities. He called on all past students and the general public to assist in fencing the College.

Other Staff Members present at the ceremony included: Mr. Maxwell Doe, Mr. Johnson Tysawo, Ms. Mercy Kwakyewa, and Mr. Duncan Dodzi Fiawoo
