Gambaga College of Education holds virtual Matriculation Ceremony

The 3rd Matriculation Ceremony of Gambaga College of Education in the North East Region has been held virtually through Zoom to officially welcome fresh students to the College.

The ceremony was held on the 19th February, 2021 on Zoom Cloud Meeting as a result of the worldwide pandemic under strict adherence to the government’s COVID – 19 protocols. The Staff were projected as the students were seated in their various lecture halls going through the matriculation. This is the 3rd matriculation of the College since the educational reforms by the government which saw all Colleges of Education now degree-awarding institutions.

The Principal of the College, Mr. Korah Kassim Namtomah admonished all the newly admitted student teachers of the College to be disciplined and take their studies seriously. Mr. Nantomah noted that, “Development through Education is our hallmark, I pray and hope that the freshmen and women will live up to expectation.  He also commended the newly admitted students for making a perfect choice of choosing Gambaga College of Education to continue their tertiary education”.

The Principal said the College was excited with the successes she has chalked which enable them to increase enrolment by 17.4% from last year’s figures. He was quick to add that “the College could not admit more qualified applicants due to limited infrastructure available”. He called for help from the government and other stakeholders to complete the abandoned structures at the College’s new site at Gambaga West.

A total of 371 student teachers were matriculated into the College for the 2020/2021 academic year to pursue a 4-year B.Ed programme under the supervision of the University for Development Studies (UDS). This comprises 207 males and 164 females.

The number comprises of Early Grade Education: 29 students of which 4 are males and 25 are females’ students, Primary Education: 145 students comprising 85 males and 60 females’ students, Junior High Education: 197 students made up of 118 males and 79 females.

Earlier in the ceremony, the College Secretary, Mr. Abdulai Yakubu in brief welcomed the fresh students virtually to the ceremony. He called on the Ag. Dean of Students Mr. Charlinsung Isung Bernard to present the students to the Principal to be matriculated.

In attendance were representatives from the College Affiliate University, UDS, and the College Management as well as Heads of Departments.
