To quote from the Bible, ‘Now Jesus himself had pointed out that a prophet has no honour in his own country‘ (John 4:44). Christ also said ‘no prophet is accepted in his hometown‘ (Luke 4:16-30), and ‘Only in his home town and in his own house is a prophet without honour’

Alas! This is true in many situations. Same can be said about you; Mrs. Atiku. You had your own share of frustration, vilification and afflictions in Government College of Education. As a Vice Principal your people revolted against you to the point that you were asked to step down from the Position in Peki.

Unknowing to your critics, God had His own plans for you. Unfit to be a Vice Principal by mortals, the immortal found you fit as a fiddle for the position of Principal.

I, as well as many others, never knew what was under your sleeves. Peki never knew what they lost until I happened to have transited at Dambai on my way to Krachi Nchumuru to undertake an advocacy assignment. I heard from the crave vine that Dambai College of Education (DACE) was having their graduation on Saturday, December 14, 2019. So I decided to lurk on the campus.

I was flabbergasted as I approached the campus of DACE. At a point I asked myself if I was entering the College, I however became conscious of myself when I sighted the inscription on the main gate of the College. I had been in the College for an assignment about a year ago.

Entering the College through the magnificent gate, I thought like many other places, you will be greeted by a magnificent entrance gate only to face a disappointed environment within. But this time around I was wrong; the inside of DACE was as flamboyant as the entrance.

Benedicta, I could likened your eight (8) months reign in DACE with 1 Samuel 18: 6-7: “As the troops were returning home after David had killed the Philistine (Gollite), the women came out of all the cities of Israel to meet King Saul with singing and dancing, with joyful songs, and with tambourines and other instruments. And as the women danced, they sang out: “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands.”

Like some leaders who continue to move their Colleges along historical tracks, you are transforming your College and heading it down new tracks. You have exhibited the ability to help the College develop a vision of what it can be to mobilize the staff, to accept and work toward achieving the new vision and to institutionalize the changes that must last over time.

Interacting with some staff and students, I got the sense of how you articulate an appealing vision that inspires and motivates staff to perform beyond expectations. You have high standards and expectation for your staff in particular and the College in general. You are optimistic about your staff ability to meet goals and provide meaning to them through showing the importance of all duties and responsibilities. In fact, you are able to motivate your team to have a strong sense of purpose so you provide purpose and meaning to drive them forward. This has encouraged staff and student to invest more effort in their tasks and to be optimistic about the future and to invest in their own abilities.

Indeed, you are a role model for your team because you engage in high standards of ethical behavior. No doubt your team identify with and emulate you. Your high standards of moral and ethical conduct can be considered to doing the right thing. No wonder you are deeply respected by staff and student, who usually place a great deal of trust in you. You have provided them with a sense of vision and mission.

Your intellectual Stimulation is colossal. It is assumed that the Colleges of Education has no money. In less than a year, you have challenge assumptions and taken risks. Your selfless style of soliciting staff’s ideas is pleasing. You recognize staff through stimulation, creativity and innovation. You have supported and collaborated with your staff as they try new approaches and develop innovative ways of dealing with College issues. You encourage staff to think things out on their own and encourage them to think independently to become autonomous.

I cannot ignore your charisma; you are endowed with the gift of divine Grace.

Mrs. Benedicta Awusi Atiku you are indeed a True Transformational Leader. Dambai College of Education is grateful to have you as their leader. Soldier on!!!
