Accra College of Education on Wednesday, 13th May, 2020 took delivery of metal bunk beds they procured for their students’ to use at their various halls of residence.
The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the College approached the Management of the College about the need to replace the wooden beds with metal beds. Fortunately for the students, the Governing Council Development Committee in a meeting approved a request that was made by the Principal of the College leading to the procurement of the bunk beds.
In an exclusive interaction with the News Desk of the Colleges of Education Weekly Journal, Dr. Samuel Awinkene Atintono, Principal of Accra College of Education stated that “it is my hope that students when they return after COVID – 19 should see the gesture from Management to improve their health and safety and be motivated to learn. We appeal to our students to maintain good behavior to ensure that the beds last long and serve the purpose for which we acquired them. We are working fervently on procuring mattresses in the near future”.
The College which was established in 1962 with the name Government Teacher Training College currently has a total population of 650 continuing B.Ed students in Level 100 and 200. A total of 391 male student teachers and 259 female student teachers. The aim of the College is to train and orient competent professional teachers of high caliber for basic schools in Ghana through quality teaching and learning, research and application of modern technologies. The College is affiliated to the University of Ghana.
Speaking to the SRC Media Team, Mr. Bright Bosomtwe, SRC President of the College commended Management of the City College for the great effort and support in making sure Accra College of Education remains a model for the other Colleges in the country in creating an enabling environment for effective teaching and learning.
He further admonished his colleague students to inculcate the habit of good use and maintenance culture to ensure that the beds last longer.
The College also received on the same day 5 waste bins from the Greater Accra Regional Mayor, Hon. Mohammed Adjei Sowah as a fulfillment of a promise he made to the College during the 2019 SRC Week Celebration. The waste bins are to aid in the improvement of sanitation in the College.
