Koforidua: SDA College of Education holds 12th Congregation

SDA College of Education, Asokore – Koforidua on Sunday, August 1, 2021, held its 12th Congregation for the last batches of Diploma in Basic Education (DBE) graduates comprising 2019 and 2020 batches.

The Congregation was held under the theme – Advancing Teacher Education in Ghana: the role of the teacher trainee.

The very colourful ceremony was graced by dignitaries from all spheres of life including Daasebre Prof. (Emeritus) Oti Boateng, Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional area, Hon. Hackman Owusu-Agyeman – Chairman of Council of Elders NPP, Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo – Deputy Minister for Education, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong – Eastern Regional Minister, representatives of Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), the University of Cape Coast, and University of Education – Winneba, among others.

The 2019 batch recorded 4 First Class honours, 115 Second Class Upper, 181 Second Class Lower, 120 Third Class, and 46 Pass. The 2020 cohorts recorded 10 First Class honours, 112 Second Class Upper, 134 Second Class Lower, 91 Third Class, and 41 Pass.

Master Bofoasa Francis, the 2020 Best Graduating Student in his valedictory address expressed his gratitude to the government for the reinstallation of the trainee teachers’ allowance which was a key accelerating factor in their transformational development.

He further stated that “the stress associated with purchasing of handouts and other stationeries was eased, to the extent of supporting payment of fees. We say ‘ayeeko’ to the government”.

In a congratulatory message to the graduands, the Principal of the College, Prof. William Kofi Koomson noted that “you been prepared purposefully, to be men and women of substance, better yet, we wish for you to be courageous leaders, transformers of society, passionate scholars and educators committed to change the world and make it a better place for the next generation”.

The Principal further stated that “wherever your path may lead, remember that you are a recognizable piece of the Seventh-Day Adventist College of Education mission. You are a pride of our founders who had big dreams some 63 years ago. Follow your dreams to become excellent teachers for this nation and the international community, but remember SDACoE, as alumni, to support her programs as you give back as faithful sons and daughters”.

The Asokoreman, Benkum Division of the New Juaben Traditional area bestowed the title “Ɔseadeɛyɔ” on the Principal of the College for the tremendous works he has done in giving a facelift lift to the College.

Hon. Hackman Owusu-Agyeman who was so impressed with the work of the Principal and his Management donated a cheque of GHC50,000 to support the College with its development agenda.

Management of the College also honoured several dignitaries present with Citations for their support to the College over the years. They include Dr. Sam Awuku – an old student and T-TEL official, Hon. Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum – Minister for Education, among others.
